Dennis Morris, 1943 - 2016

Dennis Morris died on Sunday, May 21st at the age of 73. He was an art teacher for the Springfield, Illinois school district for over thirty years. He taught every age group with passion and attention to the students. He was named teacher of excellence in 1991. He retired from the district in 2000; but didn't stop teaching. He worked with a variety of local groups and organizations as a visiting artist and workshop teacher. He was a painter, papermaker, printmaker and puppet maker. He was a member of the Friends of Dard Hunter and attended many of the Midwestern conferences. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, volunteer, friend, and supporter of the arts. He was there to help whenever he could, even over the last year as he struggled with health issues. He was a quiet man, didn't stand out in a crowd, but he had a great sense of humor, always had something positive to say, and a smile. The Springfield art community will miss him.
