Peter Sowiski, President

Peter Sowiski was born in 1949 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He received a BA in 1971 in Studio Art from Oberlin College, and an MFA in 1974 in Printmaking from Ohio State University. He is primarily known as a pulp painter, with work in numerous collections in America. Over the last forty years he has shown in over one hundred and ninety five exhibitions, held over eighty workshop, lecture and visiting artist posts locally to internationally.

Peter is an Emeritus Professor of Fine Arts at SUNY Buffalo State, where he taught from 1974-2007, did stints as Chair of Fine Arts, of Design, and received the President’s Award for Excellence in Service to the College. He investigated papermaking in Korea, China and Vietnam, and was President of The Friends of Dard Hunter, Inc., an international organization of hand papermakers. He has worked at Abaca Press as chief screen printer since its inception in 1994. Since retiring, he continues working for Abaca press, and messing up his studio in Buffalo.


Anne Covell, VP of Annual Meetings

Anne Covell is a book artist and papermaker. She received her MFA in Book Arts from the University of Iowa Center for the Book where she attended on an Iowa Arts Fellowship. She has studied Asian and Western papermaking techniques with Timothy Barrett and has taught courses in bookbinding, papermaking, and natural dyeing for the University of Iowa Center for the Book and the University of Georgia study abroad program in Cortona, Italy. Her work in recreating book cover papers from the Edo period in Japan has offered her opportunities to lecture and teach at locations throughout the country, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and was also published in the Summer 2015 issue of Hand Papermaking Magazine.

Covell's work has been exhibited internationally and can be seen in over 35 special collections libraries and museums worldwide including the Yale University Arts Library, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and the National Library of Chile. Currently, she resides in San Diego, California where she is building a Japanese papermaking studio and investigating Asian papermaking and cover-making techniques for use in conservation and book arts.


Megan Singleton, VP of Membership and Development

Megan Singleton is a practicing artist and educator based in St. Louis, Missouri. She is adjunct faculty at Webster University where she teaches Papermaking and Studio Art Courses and has worked as a digital artist for Bruton Stroube Studios since 2005. She received her MFA in sculpture from Louisiana State University in 2012 and her BFA in Photography form Webster University in 2005. Her installations crisscross the boundaries of contemporary craft, combining sculpture, hand papermaking, and digital applications. Her work explores the intersection of dendritic systems and patterns found in waterway, plants, and paths of travel. She actively exhibits nationally and internationally in solo and group exhibitions. Megan is a member of the Friends of Dard Hunter, Women's Caucus for Art, and International Art Collective Expanded Draught, based in Galway Ireland.




Jenn Woodward, VP of Communications

Jennifer J. Woodward was born in Kansas in 1977 and raised in Texas. After attending the High School for Performing & Visual Arts in Houston, she received her BFA from Sarah Lawrence College, and earned her MFA from the joint degree program at The School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston & Tufts University in 2006. With a background focused on mixed media installation, drawing and papermaking, Jenn is currently exploring the relationship between local and sustainable materials and the themes of mindfulness and an appreciation of the everyday in her art practice. In fall 2012 Jenn and her husband Gary A. Hanson established Pulp & Deckle, a community papermaking studio that offers workshops, demos, creates custom orders and operates a papermaking artist residency program in partnership with the non-profit organization, c3:initiative. In addition to teaching at the studio Jenn teaches guest workshops and classes at locations such as Sitka Center for Art & Ecology, Portland Community College and Pacific University.


Radha Pandey, Secretary

Radha Pandey is a papermaker and letterpress printer. She earned her MFA in Book Arts from the University of Iowa Center for the Book where she studied Letterpress printing, Bookbinding, and Papermaking with a focus on Western, Eastern and Islamic Papermaking techniques. Her artist’s books are held in 27 public collections including the Library of Congress and Yale University. Currently, Pandey is the Lead Papermaker and Studio Coordinator at the Morgan Conservatory in Cleveland, OH.




Jay Fox, Treasurer

Jay Fox is from Morganton, North Carolina, he received his BFA in printmaking from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2008. In 2014 he received his MFA at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Print and Narrative Forms. Jay is beginning his third year at Penland School of Crafts where he is the Print, Letterpress, Books, and Paper coordinator. This position provides a crossover and conversation between people and the tools and machinery they employ which informs his work and practice.




Paul Romaine, continuing Executive Director

Paul Romaine is continuing as Executive Director of the Friends of Dard Hunter. He is Development and Membership Manager at the Center for Book Arts in New York. Since most of his professional career has been as a librarian, he's still excited to be working with hand papermakers.
