The Art of Papermaking in Santa Cruz

From John Babcock:

I would like to tell you of a new paper exhibition running until November 14. The exhibit is called It's in the Pulp: The Art of Papermaking in Santa Cruz. It is being held and the Museum of Art and History in Santa Cruz, CA. Both work of FDH members Peter Thomas and John Babcock are featured in this show. Of the six works John Babcock has in the show, two are new this year. "Streamer" is a sculpture piece 40 inches in diameter, comprised of 28 sheets of paper 32 feet long, hanging in the stairway of the Santa Cruz Museum of Art and History. "Mandjet, Vessel for Ra", inspired by Egyptian mythology, is a large work featured in the main gallery and is shown below.

We do hope you get to see the show and this new work as well as the work of many other artists that have been part of the history of papermaking in Santa Cruz for the past 36 years. It is exciting to see all these wonderful paper pieces. There is a link to the Museum of Art and History web site below for more information.
