CLEVELAND (July 8, 2015) – Flock to the Morgan to observe their newest mesmerizing exhibitions. Morgan Art of Papermaking Conservatory and Educational Foundation will present concurrent exhibitions in the main gallery featuring Kerri Harding’s Murmuration and Jack Carlton’s Observations & Impressions.  

The Morgan Art of Papermaking Conservatory Presents: [re]define, the 3rd Annual Regional Juried Exhibition

The Morgan Conservatory is ready for its close up, Mr. Demille! After a winter of remodeling, the Morgan celebrates its grand re-opening with [re]define, their 3rd annual juried exhibition.

Prolific artists who live or work within a 75-mile radius of Cleveland, Ohio will exhibit pieces using paper in traditional and original ways. This exhibition will celebrate the avenues in which artists are redefining and innovating in our growing visual arts community.

This juried exhibition will showcase a myriad of artistic applications that incorporate the use of paper or paper fibers. Pieces selected by jurors will highlight the outstanding regional artists living and working in and around Cleveland. Cash prizes, handmade paper packages, and other prizes will be awarded to the most [re]defining works.

William Busta, the proprietor of William Busta Gallery, is a 2014 winner of the Cleveland Arts Prize. Busta earned his bachelor’s degree in English at Baldwin-Wallace College, followed by a master’s degree in history and museum studies at Case Western Reserve University in 1976. He currently represents contemporary artists who live and work in northeast Ohio.

The William Busta Gallery presents one-person exhibitions, and then continues to represent the artist. Functioning on the belief that the things we create are documents of the time and place in which we live; that the things we create have their highest expression in our arts; and that our arts are created in dialogue with the past and are our voice to the future.

Liz Maugans is an artist, adjunct faculty member at the Cleveland Institute of Art, co-founder and Executive Director of Zygote Press and the founder of the Collective Arts Network.

She received her BFA in printmaking from Kent State University and her MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art in  1992. Her curatorial specialization is her devotion to emerging art, social justice and local experimental practices that broaden access through social networks and community-building initiatives.  An advocate for artists and the visual arts, Maugans has served as a consultant for numerous organizations and art business start-ups.

Morgan Art of Papermaking Conservatory Summer Internships: Apply by April 18th

Morgan Art of Papermaking Conservatory ~ Cleveland, OH

The Internship Program has been an integral part of the Morgan Conservatory since its creation in 2008. Morgan internships provide mutual benefit to the Morgan Conservatory and to interns. Interns will be immersed in hand papermaking, book arts, and letterpress in exchange for completing tasks that include, but are not limited to tending the garden, assisting with workshops, maintaining the studios, and other general housekeeping and assigned tasks. Interns are expected to be engaged with the papermaking processes, both Eastern and Western styles; our goal is that every intern become a proficient papermaker by the end of the internship term.  

The Morgan Conservatory seeks interns who work well in groups, take initiative, are willing and able to do physical labor, and are able to handle the flowing nature of our working studio. Tasks may vary day-to-day. Interns will work under the intern coordinator as well as with our artistic director and paper studio coordinator. Interns will also have the opportunity to work alongside visiting artists and instructors with national reputations. All Internships are unpaid.
