Papermaking A to Z is a down and dirty 2-day hand papermaking workshop.
Students spend the first day in the wet studio. Beginning
with the construction of a mold and deckle, we'll learn the basics of
hand papermaking: the tools and materials used, properties of various
pulps, pulling sheets of paper, and embedding objects such as thread,
ribbon, or natural plant material. Students will create both art-weight
and text-weight papers, and galoshes or water-resistant shoes are
highly recommended.
The second day is a dry working
day, and will reveal the fruits of the previous day's labor - beautiful
sheets of handmade paper. The class will explore various ways of
working with these dry sheets - incorporating drawing, printmaking, and
bookmaking methods. (min 5/max 8 students)
